Well I managed to snap the oil chain on the 6 the other day taking the sprocket, pump and big ends with it too :-(. Was updated chain too so will revert to genuine Peugeot now to see how that turns out. Was using royal purple oil 20/50 possibly to thick putting stress on the chain/pump? Will put silkoline 10/40 to see how that turns out. Half the price too fingers crossed :-)

Unless you're racing and it's well over 120*C all the time, no need for anything like that... Mind I'm still surprised that's what caused the chain to snap, have you checked over the oil pump and confirmed the pressure? Sounds like maybe thr regulator is jammed and due to the oil being quite thick, the pressure would have been very high...
Re-examining the pic, I think the sprocket failing is the cause of the chain snap. The thickness of the oil pushing the pressure too high, and putting too high a strain on the sprocket,
i think reducing the viscosity of the oil will prevent this happening again
even though the car is not mine, it was gutting to hear she was broked... But happy days are here again

20/50 was what rich w advised and as he built the engine didn't have any reason to doubt it. He has used it many times before an never had this problem. It's all fixed now so hope it's all plain sailing again bwap bwappppppp

Have you got an oil pressure guage installed? Such a vital instrument with a highly modified engine like yours!!

The oil viscosity has nothing to do with it myself n a few others use rp with no problems. Its likely just to be a componant failure

What gauge have you got mate or are they pretty much all the same?
Oil pressure is purely a measure of restriction anyway, if the oil is like tar, it doesn't mean it's lubricating the bearings...
You could have the pressure up against the regulator at 6bar with porridge in the sump... It wouldn't be doing anything as it'd barely be able to get into the bearings!
Unless you're having serious oil pressure drops at high temperature, I'd use the closest to the standard viscosity as possible.
Bearings all done and back together , engine flush , new 10/40 oil in and new pug oil pump and chain. Took her out for a 20 mile run and all seems well so watch this space
Rp 20/50 is recommended for supercharged, turbo and nitrous engines btw

I am using the std dash temp gauge,
I have installed an aftermarket pressure gauge and a second oil light that just illuminates on very hot oil at tickover think its set for 15-18 Psi where as the std light is 5psi
so its an advance warning light of low pressure
