Full Version: Car won't go near redline?

Okay I know these don't have an ECU controlled rev limiter, and I'm not trying to limiter bash, but the redline is at 5000rpm and my car runs out of steam at 4200rpm? Just seems a little low to me, I could be wrong mind.

What needs adjusting to rectify this?
I'd say that sounds about right for a standard XUD. Mine would go up to about 4.5k after a slight tweak of the Lucas pump, but with a Bosch, I've known some end up with 6k+ of revs to play with. Wink
Correct about 4,200 is the limit on stock motor.

Can be upped fairly easily though, even just by allowing the level on the pump to swing round further can get a few hundred more rpm out of it and no messing with internals!
The limiter is there for a reason. I wouldn't adjust it unless you're doing some serious tuning and know what you're doing Smile The power and torque peaks at about 3000rpm anyway, so it's wasteful being up that high unless you've been tuning. All you're doing is creating more heat/being inefficient.

with respect, power doesn't peak at 3k, my stage 1 xud peaked at 3800rpm on the dyno then started dropping off, that wasn't gov modded either . .Smile

also it depends which turbo you have fitted as standard as well . .Smile
I was mainly talking at stock which is why I said "unless you've been tuning" Smile Otherwise there is little point going up that high.

yes but 3k isn't "high" is it? is stage 1 serious tuning lol . . .Smile

lmao
Mine nearly reached 6k regularly
6K? Pah!

With my TD04 and modded gov I revved off the gauge many times, bravery is your friend.

As are engine cranes.....
hahaha 7k is the new standard for XUD's, those who like to live life one engine at a time!! Big Grin
This forum needs a like button. ^^^^^

That is all.

peak bhp is 4k, peak torque is 3k, lucas pumped engines don't rev as nicely as bosch pumped engines.

god knows why you'd want to take it to 5k, they sound tortured at 4.
IME depends on the pump - the older Lucas pumps without EGR are utter rev monsters from my experience, they are happy at 6k+ if you screw out the max RPM screw on top! The later pumps as fitted to the ph2 cars and late ph1s with EGR absolutely hate revving, the VE makes them feel like a different engine - if modified, the VE pump will make them turn until 6k, but fuel is dying off fast!

As stock they *should* touch 5k, if it's not it sounds like your throttle cable is slack or the pump is struggling for fuel.
You haven't driven a td04 on an 11mm pump welshpug, still making loads of power, depends how brave you are

LMFAO
Haven't the foggiest what my max rpm is... never been brave enough to take it above ~5500, 6k certainly seemed possible but I figured a wild conrod might appear if I carry on, and obviously its losing steam quickly up there.

I thought it was beneficial to have the raised/removed limiter so it didn't cut the fuelling until higher so you could pull up to ~4k?

yes it is, just means you have to be a bit more careful and use it with a little mechanical sympathy Smile
