Bought the car just over a year ago for £450 with a weeks' mot and no tax.
The lad I brought her from had only had her a week, and couldn't get insured on her as he was only 18
How she looked when i got her
So I put her in for MOT expecting the worse and she passd with flying colours
Drove her around for 6 months and one day she started to spew creamy oil and water out of the radiator  so changed the heat exchanger hoping for the best and cleaned all of the cooling system out exc and few days later it happened again  So conclusion was the head gasket had gone. Could maybe have something to do with having the needle bouncing on the clock at 140mph (on a private road) :o
For the past 6 months I have been sourcing a new engine for her and today I had this delivered
55k xsara vts engine out of a 51 plate vts
Will be fitting new cam-belt,water-pump etc. and swaping all the loom over from the gti in a few weeks
I can't wait to ger her back on the road again; the 1.6 was killing me until I killed it (gearbox went 3rd time lol)
Also got crystal headlights coming as well.
Tempted to put new clutch and lightened fly wheel on as well as an ally bottom pulley while the engine is out
I'm also thinking of changing the colour of the wheels any suggestions?
Whats the mileage on the car? the engine was a top find  Just be a little more gentle with this one
Car has coverd 97,000 if I remember right
Yeah I will be abit more gentle when it is up and running not to gentle though haha
Thats a good find! Are the engines exactly the same or is there more power from one or the other?! I have no idea. Nice one though mate. Will be watching this for a while
Same engine mate I will have to use my loom and swap few sensors around and that tho as they are different
Ahhhh fair enough, gunna keep the citroen badge on the manifold?
Nope manifold will be sold on as I dont need it
You are putting the 6 box on it right? And that mileage isnt bad atall
Yes mate i will be keeping the 6 box
took me ages to find a engine with lowish milage just hope its not a dud wen i fit it. should be ok tho as i got it off jdmotorsport so dowt they would sell me a dud lol
Is JDmotorsport the one who goes by other names on other forums that people have had some ridiculus problems with?

Yes will be doing cam belt and water pump clutch etc etc all while out of the car
Jdm did have a bad rep at first, but I think now he has built up quite a reasonable one. Think that bad rep came from a few late deliverys and some side skirts that got lost/stolen/broken. I don't think there is anything to worry about
Hope the engine swap goes well
Yeah there delivery is hit and miss spoke to them a few times now and I must say darren seens like a top bloke so i dont think I have anything to worry about
Can I enquire why you bought a new engine rather than doing the hg on the existing one? HG, all pulleys tensioners & new cambelt could all be done at the same time, and it'd be miles easier to get to the 'box to do the clutch too...?
I'm not knocking you for buying another engine, if it was a barghain why not, but if you did the hg etc on the existing engine you'd at least be able to inspect the bores etc, and you'd know a lot more about any potential problems with the engine. Unlike this new engine, which although low mileage, could have any number of problems which don't neccessarily affect the running but may become more apparent... All I'm saying is you can never be sure with a 2nd hand engine, but if they money was similar to doing the hg, I reckons it may have been worth looking into the hg...
Also you can get the pistons machined for greater valve lift and then fit some naughty cams hehehe
The plan is to get the gti back on the road asap. The new engine was a bargain thats why i had it
The old engine i am keeping as a project as it will be fully rebuilt over time and eventualy droped back in to the gti
I bought an s16 engine off of krisb on .net and the headgasket went within a month. From my experience do the headgasket before you put it in.
For the sake of £70... Do the head gasket, it's a complete twunt when it's in the car...
Now the old 1.6 has gone to pug heaven i have space to work on the gti
should be some progress soon
