Does anyone know what engine number I should put down on the V5 for my XUD converted GTI? Do I just put down XUD9TE?
No you put down the number thats on the plate on the front of the block.
No, that's the engine model code/designation - the engine number is more akin to a serial number and is unique for a particular engine.
Some have the silver tin plate on the front of the block along with the plate stating D8A, DHY, etc.

Else its down under the starter, above the sump line on a flat bit of cast.

If neither, just find a blown block.
It's likely covered in shit, took some elbow grease to show mine.

I'd suggest this Max - i scrubbed and looked for a while for a plate and couldn't find much; you may have more luck if you get a drill and a wire bruh type attachment and really go for it...
Will the dvla just send the v5 back with the new details on? I need to do this for the 205

They can be funny about non standard engines and want proof that its been done and recipts and stuff.
When I changed the 206 from the 1868cc? (DW8) to 1905cc (XUD9) they wanted an inspection report that the engine had been changed.

Just got my MOT tester to type something out (well I did) saying it was safe for the road, etc. He then printed it out on headed paper for me.

Put a covering letter in as well saying what I had done and the documents came back with the updated cc and engine number.
Oh right I'll have to go down to the place it was mot'd then.
I haven't got many recipts For the engine as most was bought off ebay or cash in hand.

You’ll need to provide either:

a receipt for the replacement engine
written evidence from the manufacturer
an inspection report provided for insurance purposes
written confirmation on headed paper from a garage (if the change took place before you bought the vehicle)

I kinda did the bottom two together as one...inspection report from a garage Smile
I had a word with my MOT guy and he's just going to write me something on headed paper for when I sort mine.
Thanks for the help. Has anyone got access to a block just incase I can't find mine? Haha
