Hi guys, has anyone got any pointers on how to put a usb port in the car percent that will actually charge my phone? Was thinking of one of the 3 way things from halfords and wiring directly to live ?? Cheers

That's exactly what I'm after where did you get the thing from and does it charge your phone well?

That came from Aldi at the grand price of £2.99! And yeah, the usb would charge the phones, but i usually used the usual car charger anyway.

I think I need my self one of these.

Make sure you check how many mA the outputs are on the USB ports as most of the cheaper ones are only 500mA. Most smart phones nowadays will struggle to charge on anything less than 1000mA. 2000mA is the best option!

Wire into switched live with spare 3A. Fix USB end into coin holder etc.

They look to be 0.5Amp ports, You need 1Amp and even2 on some phones/tablets to get them to charge. 0.5Amp falls into the kinda useless category.

As said, i didnt really use the USB ports, only the normal ones.

Problem is cheaper car chargers are also 500mA! It's hard to win without spending $$$

Meh, havent got the car any more anyway, so the new owner will have to put up with its cheapness. Always did me right though.

Most phones these days need a good 1.5-2A@5v to charge quickly - especially if being used for GPS/Choons in the car.
