Right folks the HDi has started to mess about on me, on monday the pump cut out but managed to fix it by wiggling the wires about abit, but last night it happened again did the same took the plugs off but still no joy, the car starts sometimes if you give it a bit of gutty from the pedal but cuts out immediately if you let go off the key, i cant hear the pump priming itself when you turn the key now, would this be a faulty pump or what..? Huh
if you cant hear the low pressure pump priming that could well be your problem

Yeah cant hear it atall
It could be a whole number of things relating to the fuel system and sadly the only was of testing is trial and error.

Whats your mileage and when was the last time you changed your fuel filter?
Yeah so ive seem to have read, have it narrowed down to a few things now so gona check all them.. mileage i coming up on 165k and changed fuel filter at the same time as oil and air about 4 months ago..
Yeah thats not an unfair mileage to of worn a lift pump in.
Were there bits of brass filings in the fuel filter housing when you changed it?
There's plenty of ways of testing the system without buying stuff to fit. Get a multimeter for starters and check you're getting power at the pump.

Could it be the lift pump..?Its the pump in the engine that seems to be the problem no priming noise when the keys turned Is it not under the rear seats? Not that i could see no..
The pump on the engine doesn't prime till the engine is running although it shouldn't need priming anyway. The lift pump is what fills the system and the only pump you'll hear working.

Why do you think high pressure pump is at fault over the more commonly broken lift pump?
That was the one that we looked at the first time it happened and it worked, also because you cant hear it when you turn the key but maybe im mistaking the noise of the lift pump for the one in the engine... but ill look at the lift pump tomorrow
You are mistaken, the one that you can normally hear running is the lift pump. As said, test the feed for voltage when you turn the ignition, if you get power then it's definitely the lift pump that's the issue. Failig that, you're looking at either wiring issues or the brown relay behind the ecu.
Aww right ok.. Thanks guys check the lift pump this morning power going to it but when you turn the key nothing, so gona try a different pump
Sounds like you've found the issue, heres to hoping it works. Smile
Yeah hope so to, ive spent more time fixin her this past month ana half than drivin her
I take it you had power on 2 wires going to it with the ignition, theres a live for the pump and another live for the gauge on the same plug
Yeap had power on 2 wires
Got it sorted, thanks for all the help guys Smile
Glad to hear it, thanks for updating.
