Hopefully this isn't as complicated as I'm making it sound in my head.

Basically, car insurance expires on 21st September.

I turn 25 on the 17th of November.

I'm fairly confident that my insurance will drop quite considerably with 7 years NCB and being 25 years old, but I have a 2-month gap between my insurance expiring and my birthday.

What's the best course of action?

I've phoned my insurance (Sky) to discuss it and so far they haven't been very helpful, apparently only the renewals team can help and they're all busy (requested a call back an hour ago).

Temporary insurance for 2 months is likely to be expensive, no?
Can a policy be extended for 2 months pro-rata?

Any help / past experiences much appreciated.
You could take a policy or and cancel after 14 days, but you would need to do that a few times. Tbh insurance didn't really drop at 25...
As above my insurance didn't drop. The only benefit i had was it gave me cover to drive other vehicles.
Yea a major thing is the driving other cars really, since hopefully Nat will be passing her test so there will be a second car in the house (well not 'in' the house)

Bummer "/

Haven't had my renewal offer through yet either; do they usually only give a couple of weeks? If I phone now (and someone actually answers) will they be able to tell me what my renewal will be, since its less than 4 weeks away?
They usually leave renewals to the last minute so you don't have time to look around for a better deal....
IIRC mine didnt drop massively at 25 either and I'd had driving other cars since my early 20s
Just be ver carefull on what you do my partner cancelled here policy due to having a broken arm and couldn't work. After 4 months of a new policy they cancelled it due to a gap in insurance dispite proving reason why she had no insurance. Opening canceling policy's won't look good to any company. Just any reason to put the price up!

I remember when I first started driving first it was 18 and your insurance will go down then it was 21 now 25! Personally it's crap as soon as I got my first year NBC it dropped in the last 5 years 4 of those years my insurance has averaged 500/600. Yet again just more excuses for insurance company's to say why premiums are so high.
Bugger all you can do to the best of my knowledge, suck it up - imsurance for you.
Yea they finally called me back about half an hour ago. When you consider they're open til 8pm that's a 5 hour waiting time lol

Sounds as though there is little option, I can have the 'driving other cars' added on to my policy once I turn 25, but not before that as they don't offer it to under 25s... I could do with this added not least cos of the girlfriends potential Kia Picanto (oh yea!) but my mum is getting a Peugeot Partner 'pope mobile' conversion in November too which I would be able to use if I could get the cover.
Yeah you used to be able to get driving other cars at 21, except when I became 21, the industry moved it to 25 and my insurer didn't do it anyway either. I really think a lot of these "benchmark" ages are total and utter bollocks really. When I turned 21 insurance didn't decrease a lot, I am sure it will be the same case when I turn 25. I would just SORN the car for a couple o' months.
It wont drop all that much, age has feck all to do with it now, Im 30 and still pay £600 on the rallye and £1000 on the hdi! I've got full ncb and 12 years experience.

Whattttt?!
You need to shop around Ben, that's awful!
I paid 699 on the 6 fullycomp 21years old 4ncb and mods up to 180bhp

Ben, you need to shop around!
Have a shite postcode! and had a small bump 2 years ago

Trust me I do shop around, and theres only 3 brokers that will quote the rallye, I have to pile all my no claims on that so Im left insuring the hdi, with full cover for work and fairly heavy mileage with effectively 0 years ncb.
I had exactly the same thing but with only a months gap i ended up renewing and set it up as direct debt but then cancelling the policy and starting a new one after after. Worked out i saved about £300 so it was worth the time on the phone
be careful on the small print so will try and charge you for the year, use compare the market I always use them, u always get a better deal if you use them even if they quoted you higher as they have to honour the on line quote.

Have you tried Brentacre or Greenlight? They're both very good if you haven't. They also allow you to mirror your NCD onto the second car (I know certain other companies do, just going on personal experience).

This is often down to the finance company offering the finance not the insurance company. Most reputable company's finance there own policy rather than a 3rd party
You will never get best prices from sites like compare the market, you need to use quotes from that as the baseline for bargaining over the phone - saved nearly £250 off my best ctm.com quote by ringing around last year.

Brentacre wouldnt do the multicar as the insurer for the rallye was a specialist.

Trust me, Ive tried them all.
I wasn't on a muilticar policy, they were 2 separate policies but they mirrored my no claims which made a big difference.

Just to make you jealous renewing mine this week on the 6 at £415 fully comp 4 years ncb protected and im 21, not even tried to get a better price yet Wink
Ben just wtf. My rallye is with flux for 330 all modifications declared albeit 3k a year with agreed value, my hdi is 130 quid a year with admiral on multicar with the other halfs mini. I'm 32 with full ncb protected.

Flux, sky, Brentacre, green light, etc etc all use marker study as the underwriter, they are the only one who likes cages seemingly. Several insurers will mirror your no claims.
Call the broker I have used for over 10 consecutive years, they've always been cheap or very competitive for me and my scenario of a factory STANDARD car Smile

Call Ian at Woodbury insurance brokers and say Chris Reynolds recommended you got a quote from them on 01934 742550. They are a broker for around 20/30 underwriters so they MAY be able to find you a good price.

More important to me when buying insurance is the level of cover, service you get not only price. Ian deals with any claims on my behalf and if he says he will post you something that day he does, so I don't mind paying that little bit extra

My disclaimer...they have always been cheap or very competitive for me and my scenario but he may not with your scenario

And I make nothing from recommendations just helping mates not to get ripped off when buying insurance. I may give Ian a bell tomorrow and see if he'd be up getting a modified underwriter onboard and possible a club discount Smile
mine cost 200 fully comp but ncb and age helps lol
