I finally have the gti home woop

So time to get down to business, I have a suspected CV failure, but both boot are throwing loads of grease from the CV end and both need replacing , now im thinking f*ck it just replace both drive shafts and get the job done quick/easy/clean,

So the questions are,

Is it worth replacing the whole lot?

What is the best shafts to go for at the best price?

where to get them from?

And are these worth buying or are they just cheap shit?

Bear in mind that this car does like 1000 miles a year, and if I have to replace them again in 5 years (5-7000 miles down the line) I aint to worried
You'll find most driveshafts are refurbs anywho; buying BRAND NEW is expensive.

I know a lot of 'dealers' charge around £40 - £80 per shaft, but give you about 50% off (hence the varied costs) if you provide your old shaft.

But yeh, i ordered a shaft from the same dealer - couldn't fault them - looked brand spanking, but says it's a refurb. As good as new TBH

oh, and yeh, it's a hell of a lot easier than changing a boot, less fiddly, cleaner, easier, and probably cheaper.
So all in all do the job and hasn't just gave up on you in the 1st 1000k?
I extremely doubt it; you've got a 2 year warranty with it. i don't think i've racked up 1000k, thats a lot of miles Wink but no, i havnt racked up even 1k, they do the job, and tbh, they're easy to change..
you know what I mean you ginger fool Tongue lol but lets be fair an XUD will easily do 1000k Big Grin lol


But yeah f*ck it im just going to buy a couple of them then
yeh it's honestly worth it; i when i bought it i didn't think i'd be getting a decent shaft giggedy for such little cost.

Max was also shocked as he'd recently changed his CV boot; it's not worth the time, effot and mess!
Cool well that sorts that then, will just have to wait to recive a shaft or 2 now ;P

How much of a PITA is it to change them over?

Short shaft!
remove hub nut,
remove baljoint pinch bolt,
remove hub off ball joint,
pull hub away and push shaft through and out of hub,
pull hub from gearbox,
catch lost oil messy smelly stuff
fit in reverse order

Long shaft
remove hub nut,
remove baljoint pinch bolt,
remove hub off ball joint,
pull hub away and push shaft through and out of hub,
undo two bolts on intermediate shaft bearing housing
push out bearing and pull hub from gearbox,
catch lost oil messy smelly stuff
fit in reverse order

be carfull of gearbox shaft seals and maybe a good time to change gearbox oil drained box takes two ltrs Wink
