Anyone know how compatible the electrics would be if I were to swap a 99 hdi lump with its engine loom connecting to the car loom of my 98 xsi cabby at the near side front chassis leg and HDI dials plugged in?

Would it start, would I need the immobiliser mapped out the ecu?

Any other issues I wont of thought of?
Yep 1 issue

It's a diseasel!! Lol
You'll scrap it before you do it?
Sell it, buy a ph3 then just swap the bay loom over.
Orr you could look for one of those very rare ph2 Hdis and have the bay loom from that.
Other option is ph3 loom the whole car, or try and work the wiring out in the multi plug under the wiper motor (pin position is different from ph2-3) main things are lights and speedo, everything else will work AFAIK

For the ecu, ignition on in the donor car then unplug the ecu, remove the box on the ph2 and no imob issues.
Sorry Chris, which box on the ph2 do you remove?
Scrap it. You will do soon anyway so might as well before you spend a load of money.
one under the dash, same place as the ph3 ones
Theoretically speaking, the only issue you may have is the glow plug light (do HDis have a glowplug light? Even still, they would only come on for a split second right?)
The body loom is basically the same. On ph3s and 2s, the clocks are interchangeable and fully work. As chris says, you may have to swap the bsi with the one that comes with the ecu.

So you need ECU, BSI and keys all from the same car. Oh and the vin incase you ever need to get your key code.
ph2 and 3 looms are completely different Niall, the dials are interchangeable, but thats pretty much about it.
Imob and locking are different 100% so you cant just drop the ph3 stuff in.

In what way? The only ones that are different are the early ph2s where they dont have a bsi and have a locking unit behind the rear door card on a 3dr
The BSI connections are different between Phase 2 and 3. I had this problem when fitting a phase 2 gti engine to a phase 3 shell. Had to get the ECU unlocked and cut 3 wires from the engine loom. I would think it would work the same going from petrol to diesel however
All ph2's are like that, none have the bsi unit like the ph3s

Ive seen them in ph2s under the dash but then again they could of been 2.5s and god only knows what parts went into them. Even still, if he has to do a full loom change, its hardly difficult tbh.
I have a feeling mine should have a bsI and you say about interchangeable of looms but decs ph2 engine loom plugged straight into jjs ph2 hdi and started fine
Don't do it... /facepalm

You'll still look like a hairdressing rainman?

I think it would be win.
A cabby derv thats smokes its tits off awesome
Just have to go fast enough the smoke cant catch you lol.

It's the reason I want a hdi as there should be alot less smoke.
Still Devils fuel v6 it for shits and giggles
Do it do it do it do it dooooo it
i think a cabby gti would be better than hdi. finish your plans that were in place for your bianca 6 before its "incident" i.e. cammed and throttle bodies. epic bwarp with no roof Big Grin
