So just been to see some careers lady who was not much help at all, thought i would ask you guys your opinions! wont bore you to death with a sob story Heart

Originally i was meant to join the army, done my barb test and was offered Bomb disposal, military intelligence and aircraft engineering (see im not completely retarded) but i was medically deferred because of lock jaw.

So this kind of left me stumped with what to do with my life, i decided I wanted to work in sustainable engineering but i had to do a 2 year course in land based technology to gain entry. completed this course and then they cancelled the sustainable engineering course, closely followed by cancelling my back up plan (mechanical engineering degree)

After this i decided to just get a job and chill for a little bit, that was going fine until i was laid off (if you own a kindle i hate you) so now i need to sort my life out.

Im interested in working within the sustainable engineering industry, things like wind turbines etc. Been searching for courses but cant find naff all, or even any jobs in this field.

so yeah, im confused. any help would be appreciated
Have you considered being a solar installer or seing if the national grid need monkeys / do apprenticeships as once you've worked in something with the right background you'll find out about the sort of job you want more easily.
I have had a look but the national grid vacancies are all has and fuel Sad also are no where near me Sad
Thanks though mate x
Careful with renewable energies at the moment. We have 3 guys working with us who used to work for solar and wind installation guys and they got laid off because its such a unstable industry.

What sort of qualifications do you have? If you really want to get into renewable energies, you could get into some form of electrical engineering at the bottom and work your way up. Even if you can your part P, your still have a much higher chance of getting a job in renewables in a few years.
Didnt realise you had done so much Dec. Can you not try for the Army again? Surprised lock jaw is a problem when you passed all the other things D:

id take less drugs and spend the money on something else... like the car :p which youre doing already! Just have a look at jobs... anything and everything and just see what you fancy. Just be a little more open minded Big Grin

Haha yeah done a fair bit, I could do, but I wouldn't pass the screening test as some substances stay in your body permanently,

In all fairness I have cut all the bad things out now, rarely drink, only tomatoes now. But even that is being cut down now!
Not really sure where to start though Sad
Try an apprenticeship mate. Pay will be low to start with but you will be very desirable to companies. You will have the formal qualification and training and the experience of working in the real world unlike a lot of people who come out of uni an college these days.

Company my mate work for 'SERS' have had a turn over of over 10m every year for the past 3 years.. Renewable energy is only going up atm
have you considered trying your luck with BT? they always seem to be taking on people at various levels, they have huge amounts of work and are getting busier with the uk going fiberoptic.

BT is a route il be looking at myself in a couple of years as i could be doing the same job i am now but for triple the pay
Thanks guys for all the suggestions Smile
Will definitely give all these sites a look at this evening and decide where I want to go with life :/
i work for a housing association and they deal with sustainable energy stuff...may be worth looking into the route just to get started Smile
a mate of mine works in renewable energy designing wind farms.

I basically call him a wind scientist because i have no idea what he does.

I'll ask him for some info/who he works for and pass that onto you Smile
Yes please fooby! Xx
I'm a Project/Technical Installations Manager for a Borehole drilling company. I deal with design and specification of Ground-source Heatpump systems, solar thermal, underfloor heating, and with waterwell pumping & filtration design and specification. (ok I do do a lot of foruming and facebook, but OFFICIALLY I do design and shit)

Renewables is DEFINITELY only going up. The biggest problem with the heat industry is the government dangling a huge financial carrot just out of reach and fannying about making it available, ruining confidence in the marketplace. But even if that doesn't land, the 2020 targets represent a massive growth in the renewables industry; I'd get involved now whilst you can. As Niall said, get an apprenticeship, get qualifications and you should find yourself in a very good place over the next few years!
Thanks for the info ed, what courses did you take etc?
I did a degree in Renewable Energy (BSc) at the Cornwall campus of Exeter. Best time of my life. Met Darren and Ruan though getting my Dturbo and spent 3 blissful years f*cking about scraping exams and spending all my free time pissing about with xuds!!
That sounds like the course I want to do! Will have a good research tomorrow Smile
Ever considered street pharmacy? Earn £100k+ in a year, spend another in prison(5050 chance) and come out totallly minted.

Exclamation
I have think now what to go into, as the computer side of things I want to go into, is a dead end sadly.
no one wants to know me, I may have to go into a computer shop, but the laugh is I work in a supermarket anyway so I will be no better off.
^That makes no sense at all!!
He needs to find something to go into, his current conputing qualification is useless(like my degree) and no one wants him. He may end up with a pc shop, but works in a supermarket so may aswell stay there.
Hmm, strange thing about the army, you can fail for anything, I applied for the TA earlier this year and a few days ago filled in the online medical form and the next day I got a message saying that I "do not meet the requirements" for some reason. I can only imagine it was because of the mild acne that I had to declare, but it doesn't ask how serious it is, it just asks you a yes/no question. They didn't say in my email why I had failed eitherUndecided

You need to look on the upside though, this path was not the one for you and you are gonna take a different one. First, you need to know what you like doing. You might not know yet, but that's okay. I like doing something outdoors so I would probably want to be a BT Engineer working on phone lines, but that is a very specialised position which I will probably not get even with an HND. So yeah, do something that you think you will enjoy if you think you will enjoy renewable energy then go for itThumbsUp

I should have done mechanics at college at least I had passion for that rather than the ICT I ended up doing! If only I listened to my own advice!

Edit: Ignore the annoying person trying to be cool by talking about "street pharmacy" he actually means drug dealing and that won't get you anywhere worth getting at all.

Edit 2: I think getting a job and chilling is a good idea for now Smile
Any experience with telecommunications systems? We've just advertised about 15 jobs over the UK one of which is in your area i think!
No experience I'm afraid Sad willing to learn though!

Cheers for the kind words puggy!

Dont think they are taking trainees for it but ill have a word tomorrow. I know they do like taking on trainees because it keeps their investors in people status and they are happy to chuck money at people to learn. Oh and you will get a Kia ceed so you can be as cool as me! lol
Cheers nial, much love for you x
