If you had £8-10k at the moment and were looking for a new car to replace your 306, what would you buy and why?

New parts for my 306. No seriously.

A fairly decent 6 or something then spunk the rest on a bloody decent holiday

Depends what you're looking for in a car though man.... I there are a load of decent cars for the money...

spend it all on beer and hookers and continue to enjoy my awesome SVO DT MPG's . . . . . . .

All my friends and family tell me to buy a new car.

I earn okay money, about 35k, but there is no car that i could get for under 10k that drives as well, and is as cheap to run as my daily.

Completely agree.

To elaborate, imo, IF you're looking for something a bit more grown up, more economical, newer and with relatively low miles, that also handles in a similar way to a 306 (lets be honest that's a significant factor in why we all have these cars), with a nice tunable engine that will have a good second hand resale value in a few years' time, it's a VERY attractive choice.

As I said before, depends entirely what you want from the new car.

The megane r26 is one of the cars on my lost for that price range, along with the ds3, mazda 3 mps, and the e46 m3.
