Full Version: Power steering rack boot 306 hdi

I've managed to get the track rod end nut of easy. Then had a look were the passanger power steering rack boot is. There a nut on the other side I got that of as well. The rack boot will go on but now there a problem. Were the rack boot is there a bar on both sides with nuts going in them. You remove the nut of but then there a threaded pin sticking out in the way of putting the hole rack boot on the passanger side.

So I'm abit stuck now with this threading pin thats in the way at the back.

Here a example picture to the problem on the right side you see the boot then near that the nut then the threaded part pin.

HAven't got the foggiest from your desciption what you're up to.

Are you replacing the boots over the tie rods? I replaced my tie rods 2 years back without much difficulty.

Power steering ram stud which sticks out before the rack boot. Thats in the way to get the boot all the way in and over.
So you're at the point where the ram piston is removed?, the threaded portion should surely be a bolt passing through from the other side.
I found this online after having a search around for awhile.

Firstly remove the trackrod, then undo the ram nut and remove the ram, once these are out of the way remove the old gaiter, the new gaiter was bought from local partco store, a universal gaiter which is more stretchy than the genuine part. The new gaiter was left in boiled water for a few minutes just to make it even more flexible, slide the gaiter onto the rack upto the stud bolt, now this is where patience is needed, stretch the first part of the gaiter over the stud l found putting a spoon inside the gaiter and onto the stud head stopped the stud piercing through, once the gaiter has pasted the stud it was just a case of securing the ends with cable ties (supplied in the kit) and reassembling ram and trackrod. The whole job took me 2 hours, alot quicker than taking out the power steering rack.
Hope this helps someone doing a similar job.
