A family friend has contacted me to say they have an s16 which won't start. They have taken it to a 'specialist' who has said it needs a new ECU and have quoted them £600 odd to sort it out.

Whether this means the ECU is fried or just needs flashing/unlocking or something I don't know.

Has tax and MOT, owned by a couple, completely standard and apparently in good condition (haven't seen any photos or anything though). No idea about panels/interior.

They are going to have it scrapped and said I could have it for about £150, worth it's money in parts easily but I can't break it due to space and it's undriveable at the moment.

Going to do some research tonight as I have no idea about how these work, could you buy a 2nd hand ECU and match it to the immobiliser? Could just be an immobiliser issue?
sod paying that. Get a key, ecu and bsi from another car!

Oh and moved to the correct section Smile
if you don't want it I'll come up with trailor and look after it Big Grin
Unfortunately it's all the way on the Isle of Wight Joe! Pain in the arse eh?
What's the deal with the transponder? I'm guessing that is linked to the BSI and will also need to come from the donor car?
Just use a unlocked ECU or a pre keypad 306 which the early S16's where, Got a few if you need any, or if they want it fixed drop it off to me
I bet its not even the ecu!

bet it something like engine control relay
