The £1k french cheap track car challenge.. - Matt-Rallye - 08-06-2016

What started as a light hearted / beer fuelled bet amongst a few friends has now become a shocking reality!

The challenge?

To buy & build a track / race / spirited driving orientated french hot hatch for no more money than £1000.

Heres my weapon of choice:

http://306oc.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?tid=34290&pid=591427#pid591427

Our aim is to just get our group of friends together and start booking a bunch of track days etc together for a laugh, Also keeps us out of the pub lmao

Just thought it may interest a few on here or inspire a few people too follow suit Smile

Buy Clio 172, drive to track.
Job done.

Same go's for the 206 Gti 180 which are also buttons.

Pretty sure i could trounce a 172 in a saxo having owned multiples of both. If you watch the fifth gear review of the clio 172 ph1 (the quickest) and the saxo vts there is virtually nothing in it and the saxo actually looks alot sharper in the twisties. clio only just has the edge on the straights despite a 40bhp advantage...

Watch this closely and you will see the clio floundering around.

a good 106 gti or saxo vts will be perfect for this, stick some gti6 front brakes on and buy some cheap slicks off ebay will be epic fun

Yeah and the clio 172s are never making that much power.

Me though...I'd have a puma 1.7 16v or 205 xud9te

I have a clio 182 cup for that money if any one wants it

Precisely the basic idea of the plan Big Grin 1k is ample budget for a car, decent brakes and good tires so you really have to push yourself to be competitively fast!

Problem with the puma is the gearbox with its rubbish ratios for track use

There is abit more body roll going on, but at the same time you can see the stiffer chassis at work as the Clio cocks a leg in the corners.
A cup packed Clio with stiffer suspension and thicker anti-roll bar might be a different story.

Mind you isn't your Saxo currently a VTR?
