1.4 running very rough - zippy - 30-01-2015

My 306 1.4 has been running very rough nearly every day now for a while and cuts out very easily then has trouble starting straight away - I have to press the gas hard while turning key.

My boyfriend changed the spark plugs and air filter and no change. Once it has warmed up it doesn't do it. The temperature dial does not work but this has been for much longer than it has been running rough so not sure if a connection there.

The old spark plugs were black and there is black soot on tailpipe.

Anybody have any ideas what could be the problem? My boyfriend thinks maybe change the coilpack? Sorry I do not know much about cars but my boyfriend does so will relay to him any advice.

black plugs is overfuelling, search for any air leaks around the inlet / brake servo lines, then i'd look into the lambda sensor / water temp sensor
