189hp, 358lbft 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - jammapic - 27-09-2013

Shamelessly stealing the for sale thread which I bought this car from....

Say hello to Selma, joined the family after the departure of my 306 XUD which is still sorely missed despite having a 200+ hp 306 GTi-6 track car on throttle bodies.

I've not done a lot with this car since I bought it, other than sort the clutch problem, wind the boost up high and start playing with the mapping. Currently running 180hp and 280lbft.

Here's a vid of how she goes:

Plenty more mods to come and I'm sure I'll find the time to do a GTi-6 vs HDi video!

RE: 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - Midnightclub - 27-09-2013

Was this 'BellCp' (something like that iirc?) old car?

RE: 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - jammapic - 27-09-2013

Yep, BELLCP306TD from .net.

I've known him for years and couldn't bear to see the car sold to someone else... so I bought it for the collection, lol.

RE: 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - Midnightclub - 27-09-2013

Ahhh thought i recognised the spec list for it, seems that clutch lasted longer than most expected!

RE: 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - padge - 27-09-2013

this the one that went to RS tuning RR tdocuk meet when it started snowing?

RE: 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - jammapic - 27-09-2013

Yeah. That's the one padge.

RE: 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - Dum-Dum - 27-09-2013

Cant believe the car makes so little power for all the mods, who did the mapping / whats wrong with it?

Completely puts me off the Sachs clutch if its slipping with just ~255lb/ft

RE: 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - padge - 27-09-2013

I remember this being very tidy.

RE: 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - ozonehostile - 27-09-2013

How long until *hdi track car *project :-P haha

RE: 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - jammapic - 27-09-2013

The old engine was junk Dum, 50% down on compression. Ran 174hp and 280lbft with a new motor and the same mods. That was on the old whippy mapping and peak power at about 3500rpm.

New mapping by me makes similar torque (I'm limiting it to save the poor old clutch even though it could easily make more) but holds it to the hard cut limiter I've put in at 4500rpm. its making 187hp now at just 1.7bar.

I'm confident this turbo will do 200hp when I sort a few other issues and get back to mapping it again. At that point I am stopping, I'm not going for silly power.

RE: 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - Dum-Dum - 27-09-2013

Thats an awuful lot of boost mate, 1.7bar is 25psi but on a standard turbo I made 163bhp at just 17psi (1.2bar)

RE: 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - jammapic - 27-09-2013

Yep. Probably doesn't need that amount of boost, there's hardly any smoke anyway so could either turn it down a tad or up the fuelling limiters a bit. I think, as an educated guess, it should do 200hp at 1.7 bar.

RE: 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - Kezzieboy - 27-09-2013

Looks tidy, what dash lights are they, looks really good with the red, always wanted to do it to mine.

RE: 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - Poodle - 30-09-2013

Good to see a thread up for this, had noticed he was selling, definitely one of the tidiest i've seen.

The gt17 isn't exactly a big turbo, should think it'll need the boost to keep the power up. Looks good, look forward to seeing it developed.

RE: 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - Dean - 30-09-2013

After following the xud build on tdoc I'm looking forward to this build Smile haven't read through the 6' build yet but I'll have to have a peek at it.

RE: 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - Arron - 30-09-2013

The blower sounds like a good upgrade. No real lag but the top end the gt15 lacks.

home brew mapping Smile

RE: 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - jammapic - 09-10-2013

Well, no wonder the poor clutch was suffering... Ran it up on the dyno again today and the latest evolution of my map shows 350lbft at 2000rpm. Poor thing!

JP

RE: 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - jammapic - 09-10-2013

185hp and 350lb/ft

RE: 185hp 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - E_KEL95 - 09-10-2013

At what miles was this mapped at..? Just wondering as mines at 164K but not sure wither to map it or not.. Huh

RE: 185hp 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - Piggy - 09-10-2013

woh. thats a fair bit of torque!!!

185hp 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - devils_fuel - 09-10-2013

All I can say is... JP loves derv Big Grin.

Another nice motor fella

RE: 185hp 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - jammapic - 09-10-2013

I have to say, I do love derv. Despite having a 313hp 350z and a 205hp track gti6 I prefer the little diesel HDi.

350lbft is a fair whack of torque. I knew my map was making a chunk after I released a couple of limiters and wound the fuelling up a bit more... But I didn't know it was that much!

This has 213,500miles on it. Got a freshly rebuilt engine in it now though!

185hp 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - zx_volcane - 09-10-2013

That torque figure is ridiculous

RE: 185hp 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - jammapic - 09-10-2013

I'll get the dyno plot up as soon as they send it over!

JP

RE: 185hp 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - Danny2009 - 09-10-2013

350lbft no wonder it was raping the clutch good effort mate!

RE: 185hp 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - padge - 09-10-2013

awesome result jp

RE: 185hp 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - Poodle - 09-10-2013

That's an insane torque figure, be interested to see the graph.

Are you not just a little worried that'll grenade the transmission..?

RE: 185hp 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - Arron - 09-10-2013

Sweet dyno figures. Map my car now Big Grin

RE: 185hp 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - procta - 09-10-2013

this is a good car! i have drove it before the old engine died, and even helped remove the old one.
the light covers and 406 rear view mirror live on, on my HDi.
it was a good all round car, ( track, toe, genral motor way crusier in one) by christ chris pulled that off with this motor.

RE: 185hp 306 HDi, hybrid turbo, home brew mapping - 306Puggy - 10-10-2013

How does one do mapping then? That' something that has always put me off HDis and petrol tuning that you have to get someone else to tune them for you. If we can do our own mapping then it's gonna open up a whole new world of DI tuning that hasn't been explored before.
